Stable Work Hours

If you need a good-paying job, you probably need a full-time job. With full-time jobs, you can expect to work at least 40 hours each week, usually during the same time period every day. Your shift may run from 6:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. or 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., but the time you report to work tends to remain constant.

When working a full-time job with regular hours, your paycheck will be roughly the same each pay period. This can make it easier to follow your spending plan because your income will be consistent.

However, with part-time jobs, some employers may change the number of hours you work from one week to the next. One week, you may work 40 hours, but only 12 the next.

Although part-time jobs can be good, varied schedules can make it harder for you to save money and reach your goals. If your hours get cut, you may have trouble paying your rent or other bills until your hours are increased again. It can be difficult to plan for such inconsistencies in income.

Full-time jobs that require you to keep changing shifts can be difficult as well. Irregular rotations from day shifts to night shifts can be hard on children and family members. Plus, if you need child care, planning the care around work schedules that vary so dramatically can be difficult.

Ultimately, a full-time job with regular hours offers the best opportunity to manage your income and life.
